IME5082 - Introduction To The Exciting World of Narrative Preaching

Course Description

Narrative preaching has become one of the primary ways to preach the Gospel today. This course includes:

  • A short history of the renewed interest in Biblical narrative
  • How to analyze the different genre's of Biblical narrative
  • How to construct and prepare the Biblical Story with the primary focus of communicating it with effectiveness to the hearer through imagination and the fullness of the Sprit

The outcome of the course is to show how Biblical narrative is relevant and applicable in the modern pulpit today and demonstrates how to marry good exegesis with narrative delivery.

Course Objectives

The student will be able to:

  • understand the reasons for a re-discovery of the Biblical Narrative.
  • understand the Bible as both great literature as well as the inspired Word of God.
  • identify the various kinds of narrative genre and how they are used in Scripture.
  • identify the various components that make up Biblical narrative and how to craft them into a relevant and effective sermon.
  • present life-application that will move the hearer to action.
